Meet Gary Delia, Founder/CEO of Home Performance Alliance

Image
When Gary Delia founded Home Performance Alliance (HPA) in 2011, he was already viewed as an expert in the home improvement industry.    Delia began his career in Pennsylvania with Appleby Systems, one of the most respected home improvement companies. After 14 years with the firm, he and his family relocated to Florida where he worked as a consultant prior to launching HPA.   Due to several severe and damaging hurricane seasons in the past decade, the state of Florida enacted multiple building code changes. Home insurers and code authorities viewed windows as the weakest link in protecting a home during severe weather and thus enacted new building codes requiring all newly installed windows have higher design pressure (DP) ratings . The higher the DP value, the more wind, water, or structural load a window can withstand - including hurricane-force winds up to 200 mph. In addition to the codes, rebate and tax incentives from the State of Florida and FEMA (Federal Emergen...

Benefits of Impact Resistant Windows

Image
In Florida, we’re fortunate to have warmer weather year-round, plenty of outdoor activities, and beautiful views of the Gulf of Mexico. However, a wonderful coastal lifestyle also brings a greater risk of damaging storms and hurricanes. Even if your home is prepared for inclement weather, being in a hurricane’s path is downright scary. While laying down sandbags and boarding up windows and doors can be effective in preventing damage, a better preventative measure is to upgrade your windows to withstand hurricane-force winds. As you prepare your home for hurricane season, here are some benefits of installing impact windows: Hurricane protection. Impact windows are specifically designed to withstand winds up to 200 MPH as well as wind-borne debris, they provide the best protection against storms. Most of the damage during storms occurs through windows and doors; once either is broken they allow wind, flying debris, and water inside your home - potentially resulting in stru...
