Meet Gary Delia, Founder/CEO of Home Performance Alliance

When Gary Delia founded Home Performance Alliance (HPA) in 2011, he was already viewed as an expert in the home improvement industry.

Delia began his career in Pennsylvania with Appleby Systems, one of the most respected home improvement companies. After 14 years with the firm, he and his family relocated to Florida where he worked as a consultant prior to launching HPA.

Due to several severe and damaging hurricane seasons in the past decade, the state of Florida enacted multiple building code changes. Home insurers and code authorities viewed windows as the weakest link in protecting a home during severe weather and thus enacted new building codes requiring all newly installed windows have higher design pressure (DP) ratings. The higher the DP value, the more wind, water, or structural load a window can withstand - including hurricane-force winds up to 200 mph. In addition to the codes, rebate and tax incentives from the State of Florida and FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) resulted in a retrofit boom across the state.

As an experienced businessman and leader, Delia saw this as an opportunity for window sales while helping to improve the St. Petersburg community, one home at a time.

In the first year of business, HPA grossed $3 million in revenue at its St. Petersburg location. A mere seven years later, the company billed more than $30 million operating out of four Florida locations (St. Petersburg, Fort Myers, Jacksonville, and Orlando). HPA is looking at billing upwards of $37 million this year.

Delia attributes the success of his company to its people - but its goes beyond finding, hiring, and training qualified installers, canvassers, salespeople, and managers.  Drawing from his eleven years as a high school football coach (as well as being a high school and college football player), building an effective and profitable team is a direct result encouraging and coaching them.

Finding the right management staff  - or coaches as Delia prefers to call them - is integral to the company’s success and continued growth. According to Delia, these are the people who understand the game plan, what they are trying to accomplish, and what the end goal is. Then it’s implementing the techniques and tactics of effective interpersonal communication that’s proven to yield results.

In recent years, the majority of HPA leads were generated through home shows and canvassing. While the COVID-19 pandemic has limited some of their interaction with the general public, you can still find the company setting up shop at smaller festivals and fairs around the state.

According to Delia, there are still a number of homes that have not been retrofit with new windows - leaving plenty of opportunity for potential leads and sales. He’s found his niche in the Florida home improvement industry and shows no signs of letting up in the near future.

Home Performance Alliance (HPA) has more than 10 years of experience providing window & door replacement services for Florida homeowners. When you choose HPA, you will have peace of mind knowing that consultants, our installers, and our service reps are factory trained and certified.
